In greco Mnësímachos. Poeta del IV sec. aC appartenente alla commedia di mezzo. Della sua produzione conosciamo 7 titoli. Si tratta in parte di parodie del mito (Alcmeone, Busiride), in parte di argomenti tratti dalla vita quotidiana (Il misantropo, L’allevatore, e altre), in un caso si tratta di commedia politica (Filippo). - Macedonian playwriter, 350 BC. Viene citato da Diogene Laerzio in Le vite, le opinioni, gli apoftegmi dei filosofi celebri, II, Socrate, 2: Some people believed that he assisted Euripides in his poems; in reference to which idea, Mnesimachus speaks as follows:
The Phrygians are a new play of Euripides,
But
Socrates has laid the main foundation*.

Mnesimachus. A comic poet of the Middle Comedy, according to Suidas (s. v.) and Athenaeus (vii. p. 329, d.). This is also confirmed by the titles of his pieces. Eudocia (p. 303) calls him a poet of the New Comedy. Nothing further is known respecting him. (www.ancientlibrary.com)
