Rob

Rob č un vocabolo di origine araba che si poteva scrivere in modi diversi: Roob, Robub, Rohob, Rohab. Indicava il succo di qualunque frutto ridotto alla consistenza del miele attraverso evaporazione e prima che avesse cominciato a fermentare. Questa notizia la dobbiamo a Robley Dunglison ed č contenuta nel suo preziosissimo Medical Lexicon - A Dictionary of Medical Scienxe - Blanchard and Lea, Philadelphia, 1865:

Rob, Ro’ob, Rob’ub, Ro’hob, Ro’hab, (F.) Extrait des fruits. This word, of Arabic extraction, means the juice of any fruit thickened to the consistence of honey by evaporation, before it has fermented. The juice of the grape, boiled to this consistence, was called Sa’pa, and, when not quite so thick, Defru’tum. - rob cynosbatos, Confectio rosae caninae — r. ex Moris, Diamorion — r. Nucum, Diacaryon.
