Il Gallo Nero di Fabio Zacchei

Si intitola Gallo Nero l’opera d’arte in ferro di oltre 3 metri d’altezza realizzata da Fabio Zacchei e donata da una cittadina al Comune di Gaiole in Chianti. Gaiole in Chianti è un comune di 2.751 abitanti (2014) della provincia di Siena in Toscana, situato fra le Colline del Chianti. Il consiglio comunale ha infatti approvato all’unanimità l’atto di donazione del Gallo Nero alla comunità di Gaiole, voluto da una sua cittadina per arricchire il patrimonio artistico e culturale del Comune. L’opera d’arte, collocata all’ingresso del paese di Gaiole in Chianti nel cuore di Piazza Ricasoli, è stata pensata per rendere omaggio al simbolo del territorio del Chianti: Gallo Nero Chianti Classico.

“Un ringraziamento speciale – afferma Michele Pescini, sindaco di Gaiole in Chianti – lo rivolgo alla nostra concittadina che ha omaggiato il Comune con questa straordinaria opera d’arte che arricchisce la nostra piazza con un elemento distintivo e di grande valore artistico. La donazione è un atto che testimonia l’attaccamento alla propria comunità e la volontà di contribuire alla crescita artistica e culturale del nostro Comune. L’opera di Zacchei è stata messa a disposizione dei cittadini di Gaiole e dei visitatori che potranno ammirarla gratuitamente nel cuore del nostro Comune”.

L'artigiano del ferro Fabio Zacchei è fiero della sua opera che ora si trova nella piazza antistante il palazzo comunale di Gaiole. Fabio Zacchei, prestigioso artigiano del ferro, bullettaio doc (fabbro specializzato nella fabbricazione dei chiodi), unico rimasto a tramandare la stagione del ferro battuto di Castelnuovo Berardenga (Siena), ha realizzato un'opera che potrebbe entrare nel guinness dei primati. L'opera che ho realizzato – racconta Zacchei – è il Gallo Nero, marchio esclusivo del Chianti classico. È una scultura in ferro battuto alta 3 metri e 20 centimetri, l'altezza massima che potevo sfruttare perché potesse poi uscire dalla mia officina. L'idea – continua l'artigiano – è stata susseguente a un progetto di una mostra da tenersi a cielo aperto nelle vie di Gaiole in Chianti denominata "Progettar-Te" promossa dal gallerista locale Augusto Bianciardi. È così che, una volta terminata, l'opera è stata collocata nella piazza antistante il palazzo comunale a Gaiole in Chianti.

La Ferramenta La Castelnuovese è stata tramandata da generazioni sin dal 1800, da quando venivano forgiati soprattutto chiodi e bullette, dando ai paesani di Castelnuovo Berardenga il soprannome di bullettai. In seguito, si specializzava in cerniere e chiusure in ferro battuto, per porte e finestre in legno. Inoltre, vengono realizzati porte in ferro, ringhiere, finestre, cancelli, inferriate, sia su disegno fornito dal cliente, sia da progetti dell'azienda stessa.

The black rooster of Chianti

Fabio Zacchei, the blacksmith of Castelnuovo Berardenga (Siena) has made a three-meter-high statue of a black rooster and donated it to the town of Gaiole, located in the hills of Chianti in the province of Siena in Tuscany. It is a sculpture made of wrought iron 3.20 m high, the maximum height the blacksmith could make in his workshop. The project was part of an exhibition in the open air, held in the streets of Gaiole called "Progettar-Te" promoted by the local dealer Augusto Bianciardi. Then the Black Rooster, the exclusive brand of the Chianti wine, was permanently placed at the town hall square.

The Gallo Nero, Black Rooster, symbol of Chianti region and of its wine, as well as of the consortium representing the majority of the producers, is born on the background of the quarrel between the Municipalities of Florence and Siena for the possession of the territory of the true zone of Chianti.

According to old legends, in order to end this everlasting guerrilla warfare unsparing blood, the two municipalities decided to entrust the definition of their borders to a trial between two knights, with the colours of Florence and with the colours of Siena. Such border would have been fixed in the point where the two knights would met, after leaving at dawn their respective cities at cockcrow.

The Sienese citizens reared and stuffed their white rooster with food, convinced that at dawn it would crow more loudly, while the Florentine citizens chose a black rooster, which they left almost completely without of food the day before. On the fateful day the black Florentine rooster, with pangs of hunger, gaped and began to crow before the rising of the sun, while the white one, the Sienese, was still bulging of food. The Florentine knight, early waked up by his rooster, at once broke into a gallop, thus covering more way than his rival: therefore nearly all the territory of the Chianti was annexed to the Florentine Republic.
